The Sonoma County Blues Festival returns! Started at the Sonoma County Fair in 1981 by blues musician Mark Naftalin, Smith and Bowker Productions took over the event from 1992 until 2010. Bill Bowker returns to the festival this year in partnership with Sheila Groves Tracey and Second Octave. The long history of the festival has included established acts as well as ground breaking emerging artists in the blues world. This year features Sonny Landreth - Official, recent winner of the Blues Music Awards for Best Instrumentalist Guitar, award winning blues vocalist Janiva Magness, the wildly syncopated rhythms of HowellDevine, and one man band Lightnin Malcolm, Blues Music Awards Best Debut Artist in 2009, who will also be performing at the official after party at Twin Oaks Roadhouse. Doors open at 1pm with a 2pm show start. Bill Bowker, long time radio personality. His show, "Blues with Bowker" has been on the air since 1975 and was a multiple winner of "The Best of the North Bay Media Personality" and "Blues DJ of the Year" at the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame & Awards Show. Bill is also a music producer and is currently working with Sheila Groves -Tracey of BottleRock Napa, Mystic Theatre, Uptown Theatre Napa, Sausalito Art Festival and Twin Oaks Roadhouse fame on a variety of Sonoma County events this year. The festival has always hosted great acts including such well known artists as, Magic Slim, Frances Clay, Carey Bell, Charlie Musselwhite, Honey Boy Edwards, Nick Gravenites, Doyle Bramhall 1 and 2, Zora Young, Angela Strehli, Marcia Ball,Robben Ford,Ford Brothers Blues Band, Ronnie Earl, Shuggie Otis and Tracy Nelson. The festival also promotes local, emerging and regional acts and has showcased Tommy Castro, Roy Rogers, Otis Taylor, Eric Lindell, Volker Strifler, Pinetop Perkins, R. L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Kenny Neal and Carolyn Wonderland.
