Amtrak San Joaquins passenger trains travel through the heart of California’s central valley, connecting the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, south to Bakersfield. The scenic San Joaquin Valley route traverses the state’s top agricultural region, often called “The Nation’s Salad Bowl” for the diversity of fruits and vegetables grown in its fertile soils. Passengers can enjoy the picturesque view along the San Joaquins miles of vineyards, fruit and nut orchards, as the eastern boundary joins the Sierra Nevada foothills featuring Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia national parks.
In Northern California and the Bay Area, Amtrak trains travel to Martinez, with connecting buses to Santa Rosa. The route has an extensive network of dedicated Amtrak Thruway Motorcoach buses that are critical to the performance of the service. Buses are timed to meet trains and offer connections to points in Southern California (including Los Angeles Union Station where passengers can continue their journey on the Pacific Surfliner or Amtrak's long-distance trains), the city of San Francisco, the Central Coast, the North Coast, the High Desert (including Las Vegas), Redding, Reno, and the Yosemite Valley.
Santa Rosa passengers wishing to use Amtrak service can board Thruway Motorcoach buses at the curbside bus stop located at 917 Edwards Avenue, Santa Rosa CA, 95401, next to Dick’s Sporting Goods near the Coddingtown Mall complex.
